Fleece a fan palm?
I think this is a fan palm in our garden and I am curious whether I should cut back the leaves and fleece it this winter? This is our first winter in the house so not sure what the previous owner did. If I should, should I just use a layer of fleece or would you recommend wrapping it in straw as well?
The fence is pretty much bang on south facing if it makes any difference.

Fan palms are a lot hardier than people realize matt, they rarely need wrapping in the UK. South facing is good and it looks pretty sheltered. I don't think there's much chance of losing it in a UK winter.
OK thanks Dave, I'll keep an eye on it and if it forecasts prolonged cold I'll wrap it loosely.
We have one like that in our garden in Devon and it's been fine for about 6 winters now without any protection. You didn't say where you live, but it should be OK in mild areas.
gorgeous that isn't it.....so striking....
Chamaerops Humilis is hardy to -13C if on the dry side. I would only fleece it is we get -5C or less forecast.
