The 'task' of poring over seed catalogues and deciding what to grow in the coming season closely followed by sowing and regular inspection of several dozen seed trays waiting for the first signs of life.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
Stepping out the door thinking hey it's not raining - where are my secateurs and sqwidger ( broken 3 prong tool that only has 1 prong but digs up weeds , clears grass from lawnmower etc!) task is - where do I start ?
Harvesting potatoes with with my daughter is probably the thing in the garden I've most enjoyed this year, but as a true task I'd say collecting leaves to make leaf mold or 'planting' food scraps in a hole to compost - I love knowing it's making something good and free and kind of completing a cycle.
I love a good hand weeding / tidying up session - especially the first proper one of the year when the sun is just starting to feel warm for the first time in ages. The results make the garden look tidy & good, there is the satisfaction of having been out in the fresh air getting some exercise and the knowledge that the weeds take longer to start growing again at that time of year.
Once I get my head down & my bum up (sorry ) I would be there for hours except the still-early nights stop me doing too much at once.
And that first al fresco cup of tea sat on the bench with no coat on & the sun warming my face is something to cherish!!
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
..well I was just going to offer everyone a nice hot cuppa from that gorgeous yellow teapot up there, but it's gone now.... as is the Sky Go advert which was the cause...

I think very hard Philippa, it can be very tiring, or maybe it's the wine
Apart from that it has to be dividing perennials and planting out the borders in the spring. And in order to do that properly you need a plan

Anything to do with compost. Making it , turning it , mulching it. I love compost. Can I also add the joy of seeing seeds germinate.
