Help Identifying plants

YviestevieYviestevie Posts: 7,066

I've just catalogued the plants in my front garden (nerdy yes I know) .  I have found a few that I don't know the names of and thought my friends on here might be able to help.  Don't scoff, I'm sure I should know what they all are but  I'm not very knowledgable on what's what in the plant world.

Right there are not two photos of not 5. They are different.

I think 2. is Pittosporum Tenuifolium but not sure

I think 3 is a Pieris but don't know which one.

On number 6 its the ground cover plant I''m trying to identify not the grape hyacinths or the weedsimage

I know 3 is a geranium but not sure which one.  Its a rubbish photo sorry but its blue in color.

Number 5 is a pretty yellow-orange Geum .These are perennials and should show again next year - mine do.

You could do worse than look the leafy shrubs up in the Tree and Shrub Expert book. The pics are good and it's a big help in identifying plants.

  • Hi Yviestevie,

I think one of your No 5's is a common dog-violet, Viola riviniana.

3 could be  geranium rozanne, the last one may well be sanguineum.

1  Looks like my lemon thyme, but rather bare. Does it smell of anything?

    2  Pittosporum

    3  Geranium "Rozanne"

    5  Geum  ? Totally Tangerine

    5  the 2nd  violet

7  Arabis   - I think. Low growing white or pink flowers in spring

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Thanks Busy, I'm sure that Rozanne is right, but after looking on line I'm thinking the Geum might be Borisii but I will check out Totally Tangerine.  I'll also look at Arabis, I also think you are right on the lemon thyme.

    I'd completely misjudged the scale.

I'd replace that, it's worn outimage

Hi Busy, yes Arabis is definitely no. 7.  found a close up on the internet.  But I'm sure the geum is Brisii.  The centre of TT is too dark.  Thanks for your help.
