  • Looking good as always Pam. I've used perlite for cuttings this year too with great results.

Pam this is very impressive, is it 100% perlite, how frequently did you water?

    Thanks Ladygardener image

Kate I did keep the Perlite moist and I know the cuttings will have to be potted on soon to keep them growing well - not a lot of goodness in Perlite !

This week I have been working in my greenhouse-picking plants over ,watering well and taking stock of the good and bad!

I have had a few casualties-lost all the brachycombe cuttings and quite a lot of the verbenas which were got at by a bad infestation of aphids A tray of scented Geraniums looks very poorly -my fault for not watering them correctly.

I have 14 out of 24 healthy Perlite Laurentias, only 10 out of 18 trailing Perlite Gerniums and the two pots of Sanvitalia Perlite cuttings look o.k - I will have to pot them on soon. The Leysesteria and Cobaea cuttings didn't survive - worth a try, though.

I have loads of trays of lovely trailing Geraniums,Marguerites,Sanvitalias, scented Geraniums,Helichrysums,Plectranthus,Felicias and Osteospermums to keep me busy potting them on soon so all in all I am very pleased

Well done Pam. image I still have a Cobaea that's hanging on by the skin of it's teeth outside. Up to now it's seemed to survive everything that nature's thrown at it . Be interesting to see what happens.

My baby basils are doing very well. image

    Thanks for the update.

Pam do you prefer perlite or vermiculite?

  • LilylouiseLilylouise Posts: 1,013

    Thankyou Jean,Bunnysgarden and Kateimage

Kate - I prefer vermiculite to mix in the compost and for putting on top of seeds when I have sown them but the perlite seems better with the cuttings image
