Preventing root growth/ spread

Hi all, I am about to plant Bamboo ( Phyllostachys  nigra)  I wonder if anyone has an idea what product will  prevent roots spreading out into the flower boarder as I wish to contain it's spread to about one Meter diameter.

Any ideas please?

Nigra isn't anything like as vigorous as Aurea, but if you want to play safe you could set 9" (225mm) paving slabs on edge, finishing just below ground level.  They will help contain the roots and shoots.
