We live down a single track dead end lane with lots of footpaths off. 99% of the time it is rural bliss - quiet and very little traffic other than lots of dog walkers. We are also only about a mile from our phone exchange so internet is pretty good considering (chances of fibre optic are slim to none tho'!)

However, everything is overhead, there are lots of trees around & we have to live with the near certainty of electric & phone disruption when the weather kicks off. Last year we lost power a couple of times - once for 2 days (just after the clocks went back to make it extra dark!) & the phone was off for 2.5 weeks. Nearly drove me mad - like Nut we use t'internet for everything - staying in touch, news, weather, entertainment, shopping, banking.

I really feel for Lyn - it can feel quite isolating not being able to just log on. Hope she at least has a decent mobile signal given her situation - hope things get sorted out soon.

Hope to see Lyn back very soon

Topbird - sounds like we live in very similar places - idyllic most of the time, but the first to lose services.  We got so fed up with power cuts everytime the wind blew that we invested in our own generatorimageimage.

Chicky - Had just arranged to hire a generator last year when the lights came back on - we are considering buying one this year tho'.

Our saving grace is the old boy who lives down the road on his own... He has to use a walking frame & his house is in a dip so he gets no mobile signal . When the power supply people were informed that he had been walking round his old cottage (uneven floors) with a candle stuck on the frame & no way of contacting anyone if he fell - they came & repaired the probs PDQ. (Don't worry - all us neighbours keep a good eye on him & pop in regularly whenever there's a problem - & somebody bought him a torch when they heard what he'd been up to !!!)

Thank you for all your kind thoughts. The phone line was fixed yesterday, so was back on line!.

We only have bottled gas for cooking, and like others have said, no chance of fibre optic. Everytime there is a thunder storm the power goes off, we have had a lot of lightening later, not for long, just long enough to set all the clocks!

You wouldnt beleive this but my mobile signal is awful, sometimes texts come through the next day, sometimes instant.

I go up to the top of the garden to make a call, and thats being 960ft above.

Anyway, all ok now and coping well.
