Sweetpeas over winter
Hi All
A little sweetpea advice would be great please.
This is the first year i have sown them so early and they are germinating nicely in the propagator on the windowsill. I presume i need to put them out into the unheated but bubble wrapped greenhouse over winter- at what point should i take them out to the greenhouse? Will the cold not shock the little seedlings? Any tips much appreciated.
I also have box cuttings- should they also go in the greenhouse over winter?
Thanks

I'd be guided by the weather next year Digger. Sweet pea's are pretty hardy and can go out fairly early if the weather is good, so leave them where they are till next year. Box is a tough shrub, if they are well rooted they can stay outside, in pots or buried at soil level to prevent frost damage.
I don't grow sweet peas DD but I wouldn't have anything in a propagator at this time of year. You've found the problem. If they stay indoors they'll be lank and leggy by spring. If you transfer them to an unheated GH the soft growth may be damaged by cold
