Been weeding around the blackcurrant bushes today and noticed a row of these little plants, all very neat, some bigger than others. Any idea what they might be or are they just unusually tidy weeds? Seems a strange place for them to have been planted. image

Have you got Carex pendula (or any similar carex) in the garden?

  • Definitely a sedge.

  • Thank you, there is one in the garden, but completely other end (and enormous), wonder if they were planted there just to get them started.

They don't need help to get started DDimage

But you might need heavy machinery to get rid of them eventuallyimage

  • I had been told to dig the big one up anyway, will do in the spring, feel it is filling a hole the weeds can't get to for now. Think I will get rid of this little row now though, need things I can manage not likely to take over, the weeds are bad enough for that image

Thanks for the advice, they looked so sweet all in a row, I was hoping for some exotic flowering wonder. image

Sedge, ok in the right place, otherwise get rid.
