Mint is looking pale and yellow :(
Hi all, New to this forum and gardening altogether. I just recently purchased a house and the previous owner grew some mint in a pot in the garden. I watered every other day or so and recently it's been raining a bit so not bothered to water it but at the moment it is looking a bit pale and yellow. I'm wondering is this because of lack of water or lack of sunlight? I read in another thread somewhere in a passing comment that mint is quite water hungry. Is it hungry enough to need to be watered everyday? Or is it lacking some fertiliser/nutrient? Any help is much appreciated, many thanks!

Mint is perfectly Hardy, but it will die down over the winter. In early spring, before it throws up new shoots, take it out of the pot and tease out the roots.. You'll probably be able to divide the roots up into at least four portions and pot up each portion separately in individual pots. I would use a John Innes loam type compost.

I meant to say, you could split it now and take one of the pots into the conservatory For the winter and it should carry on producing shoots you can use for cooking throughout the winter.

I grow all my mints in large pots to stop them escaping and they're all looking pale and yellow now as they die down before winter. I have reduced watering and, beacvuse we have hard winteres here, will soon take the pots into shelter for winter with no further watering.
Come the spring they'll be brought outside, all the old shoots will be removed and the pots throroughly watered and then to dressed with some fresh compost. If tehy're looking very congested they get turfed out and divided an dthen replanted and watered.
