i did dig up the remains of a childrens swing and a fire place at my inlaws garden, before i was informed they had buried all of the bulky rubbish years before, i opted to install tall log roll and fill with compost for flower borders, rather than sacrifice my lower back!
My drill (bought as a Christmas present by my rather DIY innocent brother 42 years ago who said to the sales assistant in Selfridges 'My sister wants a drill with a vibrator' - I had asked for a drill with a hammer action) still has it's original chuck key because I keep it attached to the lead with a piece of string which has only had to be replaced once in 42 years. I have bought other drills to put my old one out to grass, the first one the chuck flew off so I returned it to the shop, the second one is so low powered I just use it permanently for countersinking. It is not allowed to do anything else until it grows up!
Ah yes, drill chuck key. It wasn't in the garden though. Must have been three years before that turned up about 2 feet from where I had been using it in my 12ft x 3ft hallway!! I often lose things indoors as well as out but I mostly know whatever it is is still here somewhere as long as it was an indoor loss. Lost in the garden, no hope at all, just sheer luck if I get it back. And no I don't have acres to lose anything in, just easily distracted and forgetful (though my son-in-law has a different explanation but then he's so tidy it's perverse). My daughter says he's usually washed up kitchen utensils before she's finished using them so much so they sometimes get washed as many as three times

David...
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I have a lovely pair of wolf garden secateurs - somewhere - no idea where they are, may be in a dalek, may have been recycled, may turn up
The other day I emptied a dalek composter and there at the bottom was a long lost potato peeler
