Brown spots on Viola leaves

A few of my Violas have developed this, should the leaves be removed, is there a spray I could use to stop the spread- if so, which one? I so love my tubs of Violas and Pansies and would hate to see them all die off. Thanks for any advice that you wise gardeners can give to me

The warm damp weather has encouraged lots of fungal 'infections' this autumn - my guess is that it's something of that sort.  I'd pick off the worst affected leaves and hopefully when the weather cools down the problem will be gone.

    Be careful not to over-water.

  • Thanks again for your help Dovefromabove. I must say that with all the recent rain  they have got soggy in their tubs, will move  them  somewhere to try and dry them out

  • Sadly this is a downside to these plants.

As these are my main plant that I grow, show and breed I know many types of fungal problems exist out there .

A product called "fungus fighter " is available ,but as Dovefromabove explains until the weather becomes less favourable just hold on if you can.

In the spring new growth will appear, and then all of the old  string like stems can be removed and you will have a clean plant.

I think it is nature's way of slowing the plant down and letting it rest for winter.

  • Ok thanks viola man, I'll just 'wait it out' and see if things improve over time
