Trachycarpus Fortunei in Container
I have a Trachycarpus in a container on my deck, it's a big stone pot and very very heavy!!! The plant itself is only about 50cm tall. The question I have is this: The container stands on a dish, to make sure the deck doesn't get dirty from water running out the bottom of the pot, will the fact that water is retained in the dish affect the plant at all? I can't control how much it gets watered by the rain, so will the standing water make the plant sick?

hi
it could make it unwell if it gets waterlogged in winter, any chance you could get a deeper dish and fill it with gravel, just to give the water somewhere to drain to?
i grew one from seed a few years back, if it gets cold and soggy it WILL die, this is the bitter voice of experience speaking
BTW - do the leaves drop off when they're ready or does the old growth need to be cut off?
Thanks again!

good plan Saltski, id leave the tatty bits til after winter, if the forcast is very bad, you will need to wrap it in fleece, the small ones need a litte extra care
