Getting rid of a rambling rose
Have recently cut down a very vigorous and oversized rambling rose but the roots are a nightmare, our soil is very heavy and am down about 2+ feet below soil level but looks like the roots go much deeper, to save my back am wondering whether I can leave the remaining deep roots to hopefully rot away or is there a chance they will simply sprout again? Thanks in advance for any help

I'd agree you've gone down far enough to prevent any re-growth.
Thanks for the advice, will save me a lot of time and trouble
Same problem. Paul’s Himalayan rambler was beautiful but far too vigorous for where we had sited it. Planted a mere 3years ago (maybe less) the roots were huge. Got the main bits out, but 3 big chunky root ends remain. I was going to have another go, but am tempted to leave them in hope that they will rot away eventually. Any comments welcome!
I did for a rambling rector by cutting it down to a stump and rubbing off the buds whenever they appeared. It took a couple of years, but no real effort.
I've done the same with a couple of large goat willows.
