mystery red bugs

Hi can anyone tell me what these are and why they are munching on my Lilyplease

    It looks like "Lily Beetle". Maybe try spraying with Provado. That should kill them and the larva that eats the roots. Very late in the season for them. I usually get these in the Spring.

    Provado spray worked for meimage or get a plant that eats them ,then you hear them squeal image

    I'm very cruel arnt  I ,

    but I see it this way :::  Lilly Beatles eat myplants.  So vica versa image

    Just to add, the larva do not eat the roots, they live on the leaves. Also the adults overwinter inside the scales of the bulbs. So if you have occasion to dig up the dormant bulbs, it is worth looking closely for the beetles.

    Please be careful with Provado, it does kill bees.

    The larvae wrap themselves in their own poo and hide on the underside of the leaves - I get a bit of kitchen roll and wipe all the leaves from bottom to top.  image

    Be careful when you try to grab them too - they have a habit of dropping onto the underlying soil on their backs. It makes them harder to spot as their tummies are black. Sneaky little blighters  image

    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....



    I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
