Tree spinach
in Plants
I saw Tree Spinach (Chenopodium gigateum) growing a walled garden I visited. It made large, stunning plants that tasted good as well. I'm thinking of growing it next year as a dot plant in my borders - does anyone have any experience of it?

Is that the one with the pink new growth?

Here is some info on it:

Yes, the pink one.
It's easy to germinate, seeds about, mine has been self seeding for years though I only had 2 this year. Attractive in its early stages, huge and boring later.

It was up to a couple of metres tall when I saw it and still had a lot of purple/pink colouring. When you say "boring", what do you mean? Is it easy to pull out if it stops looking good?
Boring as in loses colour as the seeds form and looks much like fat hen. Fairly easy to pull up but disturbs the ground as the roots are quite spread out.
I've cut my largest one back a fair bit now it's reached that stage but left enough to seed. I like it and put up with later appearance.

OK, thanks. I'll give it a go for next year.
