I have a cutting of an aspidistra that is from my great-grandmothers original plant (which is happily living in my mothers front room), my grandmother said that she was bought it as a wedding present during world war one by my great-great-grandfather!
We have a Euphorbia Trigona which my husband bought when he started his first job 34 year ago. It was about 6" tall then and for many years he moved it between offices and jobs until it got too big and he brought it home. It is now over 7 foot tall plus pot and trying to push it's way out of the conservatory roof!
we have an Aspidistra that I got from my MILs house , she would have been 93 at the time and had had the plant since before the war .... It lives behind the front door where there is a frosted glass window and I forget about it . Just looked and it has a few new leaves . OH thinks it is 70 +years
A column-type cactus which I bought as a 4" youngster around 1975. We had to cut it in half last year when one of its three stems was pushing against the roof of the conservatory, around 10ft tall. It's resprouting quite happily now.
I have a spider plant that is a cutting from my granddad's original plant some time before 1980 - it's growing well in my kitchen and has survived 4 house moves as well as being stalking and target practice for around 10 kittens over the years
My father bought a Super Star rose in the early 60's from John Mattock, it has been moved twice, in mid August each time and survived each time, it's getting a bit weak now , but still managed one fragrant bloom last year.
When we moved into our house in Canada in 1992, the previous occupants left behind 2 African violets. One lasted about 10 years before finally expiring. However, the other flowered 3 times per year until 2011, when we moved out. The next occupants didn't move in straight away so I gave it to another neighbour to look after until they did. When they moved in, it was in full flower and I advised her where in the house to keep it. I am told it is still going strong...probably around 25 years old by now!
