Working in the garden today I came across this caterpillar that I have never seen before, such strange colouring and hairy skin. Anyone have an idea of what it is? looks exotic to me.

Thanks

What an interesting link, Gardengirl, so much good information!image

  • Can't recall who it was on here who, faced with a photo of a very similar caterpillar, said it was the Toilet Brush caterpillar, most commonly found in Looe, Cornwall. Had be going for a few seconds too, before I started snorting with laughter. Thank you, whoever you were! image

I asked for an ID on one in September, but mine was a pinky colour, which apparently they are sometimes. It was someone on that thread who mentioned toilet brushes! This caterpillar is the more classic colour.

Be careful, the fine spines can irritate your skin.
