What is the secret of growing Acer seeds successfully?

    I have tried in pots in compost also over some heat and in apropergater outside in damp sharpe sand, I had one in a pot come up only to die shortly after which was possibly due to me putting the seedling in ordinary compost instead or ericatious which I believe it requires, any help would be appreciated.
