Is it time to feed my Acer Shirasawanum Jordan to my woodburner?
Hi all,
I bought a young acer shirasawanum jordan from dobbies for £30 in May and pretty much since the day I potted it up, its looked unhappy.
The tree has suffered from scorched leaves and just generally looked untidy throughout the summer.
I potted it in acidic compost with plenty of feed and watered regualery throughout summer.
This is the first acer i've tried to grow so i could be doing something wrong.
Its leaves are now starting to drop so any suggestions much appriacted.
Should I mulch over winter?

Also as you can see from the photo there is a random single long branch growing which is making the tree look really unbalanced. Should I chop it off? ?? and if so, where do i chop it too?
Thanks J
It looks ok. to me. Its Autumn so leaf drop is normal.
I would move the pot somewhere sheltered over the Winter, and then next year put it somewhere not too sunny, and out of the wind. It will soon be a thing of beauty again.
When you don't even know who's in the team
S.Yorkshire/Derbyshire border
my friend said I over watered it? is this possible?
I'd also stop that ivy creeping over the wall, and hope that Russian Vine doesn't get too frisky.
I would cut the long branch to the point where it shoots. If possible I would move the plant to a more sheltered positition and would wrap a double layer of fleece around the pot. In spring ,once danger of frost has gonr I would tip the stems gently of any die back For its first year it looks good and I'm sure will give you many years of pleasure
i would also get it in a bigger tub if not planting out, that one is much too small. Also get the pot up on feet to avoid frost and to let any excess water drain away and move away from chilly wind tunnels .Just give it a little trim in spring and a feed.
Where it grows out of the main portion of the tree?
