Half-moon edgers are still readily available in you local GCs, I should know, I broke 3 when edging my miles of edges a couple of years ago. One only lasted a few hours.
When I'm edging along the paths I use the half moon edger to actually cut through the turf where I want the edge to be, a spade to scrape it off the path into my bucket & a hand L-shaped patio weeder to rake out a clear mini-trench between the grass & the lawn. The mini trench - about 1" wide and 2" deep - stops the grass growing over the paving again quite so quickly & means I only need do this rather onerous task every other year.
Makes the whole garden look neat & tidy when it's done
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
I've found this Qualcast edger really good to use, and have used it to create the edges for a new flower bed cut from my lawn, as well as edging around the patio. Having the little platform to stand and push on makes it so much easier (and safer) to use, for me at least.
The very very best lawn edger i ever seen is Kate my partner ,trouble is its high maintenance, only works when she wants to and then wants me to do the dinner,But apart from that the half moon one kept sharp is the best one I have ever used does wot it says etc.
Oh my goodness, I'm really spoilt for choice now, aren't I? I think I'll have a look at your Qualcast one, thecatsmother. Thank you so much for posting the pic and link.
Happy cottontail. From your picture I think it looks nicer untrimmed, overlapping the edging slightly. More natural and integrated. I bought one this year in Lidl, but haven't used it yet! Surprised?

I use a crescent edger which I inherited from my Dad like others above - it is so efficient.

Best to do it when turf is soft, as it is now.
