Is it too late to cut back lavender?

Birdy13Birdy13 Posts: 595

I cut  back my lavenders on 23rd August. Is it too late to cut back again? If not, how deep back should I cut?

I left the shoots too long apparently because they haven't flowered a second time like hoped for. Instead they've gone woody and remain bare.

The blooms were fantastic earlier in the year. Can I still expect a second flowering this year or not until next year?

I wouldn't expect more flowers til next year.  They look fine to me - don't cut back any harder now, or the coming frosts will clobber the new growth it stimulates and that could kill the plant.  You can give them another trim late spring next year if you want to tidy them more.
