I replied to your other thread on this, deer don't eat ivy, but for ivy to make a hedge it first has to grow up a wall or similar and it won't make a hedge until it's mature and starts to bush out and grow different shaped leaves and berries which the birds love.

I have ivy covering a wooden fence that divides my front garden from my neighbours its around 4ft tall and is never a problem, I just use the shears to cut it back a couple of times a year.

Thank you for comments I should have mentioned the hedge is pre grown on a wire fence ready for planting up to 1mtr plus high

Deer will just jump over anything if it's only a metre high. Needs to be around 9/10 feet to keep them out.
