Frikartii Monch

I am planting up a freshly cleared border with asters, and have a Monch in a large pot which I now wish to split up into 3-5 plants to put out with my newly acquired others.

The official advice is to split in Spring, but I am impatient to plant up everything now. Can I split the Monch now.

I've s;it asters in autumn and spring. I'd say Spring is best, they can sulk in Autumn

You can, but be prepared to lose some if you do. I'd split the clump and allow a few extra to be kept in a cold frame  or GH overwinter. Asters are pretty tough, but play safe and keep a few frost free over winter.

  • Thanks, Hopefully I can get 5-7 and save at least 3. However I will probably see how my planting goes and may leave the spaces. Then split in the spring, which we all know is just around the corner!  This particular plant has to look after itself. I basically neglect it and it still catches the eye of anyone passingimage.
