    I agree.  Plant hardy geraniums which will look after themselves.   Rozanne is very good but can get a bit lax if not planted in full sun.   You have a wide choice of flower colour, height and spread of plant and also leaf form.

    I underplanted mine with perennial geraniums in pinks and whites to compliment the purple/mauve alliums which spread as the season went on.

    Sound good. Started today with the bulbs vey wet and muddy work.
  • On the subject I alliums and grasses - would Stipa gigantea swamp alliums planted among it?

    depends how close you plant them. S. Gigantes keeps a lot of the foliage in winter, so you can see who far it covers before planting your bulbs
