Anyone know what this plant is?

Hi, a friend has given me the seed pods of this plant, but cannot remember the name of the plant. I have tried to identify it on several plant sites, including this and the RHS site, but no joy.
We think it is an annual, the flowers open into a cup shape, and the plant usually grow up to about 3 ft. Seem to grow in any conditions in any soil. It seems to self seed and spread easily.
Thanks a lot
