Quince tree problem

Hi, Last year I purchased a bareroot quince tree, planted it in autumn and at first in spring it came into leaf and looked really healthy. However we then had lots of.rain and the leaves turned brown, or at least had patches of brown and it seems tl have just limped through summer with a few green leaves. I remember Monty mentioning on GW that it was a type of fungal infection, but I.can't remember what he said to do about it? Can anyone help?

It really has been the year of the fungal infection!!!  Perfect weather conditions - warm and damp.

If I remember correctly Monty felled one of his quinces because he felt that they were overcrowded and that this was encouraging fungal infections.  I presume that's not so in your case as your tree is recently planted..

I would rake up and burn the fallen leaves, ensure that the tree gets plenty of air-flow around the branches and then not worry.

Encourage healthy growth by ensuring there's clear soil around the trunk and feed with Fish Blood and Bone in February.

Well, that's what I would do - others may have different suggestions. image

  • Thank you for your advice! I will clear all of the leaves and trim it.
