What do I do with the tiny bulbs?

Hi,

Not sure I'm coming down the right channel, it's the first time I'm trying to find something out here.

I lifted my gladioli yesterday and there are myriads of new corms.  The ones I had last year I planted among the more mature ones when I put the bulbs in, but they didn't do much.  A few spikey green leaves but nothing substantial, and certainly no flowers.

Do they have a future or should I just dump them?

Thanks,

Vin

  • Those corms are in a shell like a peanut and most shells wont open.it take about 3-4 years to bloom but I still waste my time taking a nick out of each one with my knife letting the moisture get in and the roots out.At first they look like grass.

  • Thanks, Bill, yes, they do look like grass.  Are you saying that if I keep planting them, in 3 or 4 years they might flower?

Nice to see you again Bill - just realized what your your 'name' backwards is.image

I am hoping that mine will eventually develop from 'grass like' to proper plants one day too viva.
