What is this?

Hi guys,

Can somebody tell me what is this plant that has grown in my garden?

Thanks.

  • Just realised how small the picture is. Do you need a bigger one?

Euphorbia lathyris - caper spurge  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euphorbia_lathyris

They often pop up unannounced.  Beware of the milky sap - if it gets on on your skin it can cause extreme photo-sensitivity and cause swelling and rashes in sunlight.

  • Thanks Dove.

  • I had a problem with this euphorbia in my old garden. If you want to keep it for it's rather unusual foliage, dont let it seed. It will fire seed all over the place. I once heard seed pinging of the garden fence. image

  • I second Dove's warning about the sap - somehow a stray plant got going in my greenhouse & I became quite 'irritated' when I handled it with bare hands. Wear gloves and dispose of it carefully. *If it gets to the seeding stage they fly everywhere!!
