Dividing Lupins

ElusiveElusive Posts: 992

This question is aimed at Verdun really as Ive seen him mention it a few times image

I divided one of my Lupins that seemed to have got pretty big.

What I didnt realise is that they have a tap root, I broke this apart into 3 sections, each with its own bit of root and potted them up.

They seem to be doing ok at the moment

Is this the right way to do it?

  • root cuttings normally aren't made with the tap root itself but with the new roots that branch from it-the mother plant also usually survives. but who can tell, gardening is a constant voyage of discovery. however. the best way to propagate lupins is in the spring from basal cuttings-same as delphiniums , poppies, foxgloves
