Dig them up after the first light frost and store somewhere frost free in dry compost.
Split in Spring and pot the individual pieces up. I split mine this Spring just gone into about 4 separate plants from a large clump.
I gave 3 of those away and the 1 I kept has formed a clump just as large.
Okay thanks that's great will give it a go
Someone gave me a canna lily in the Spring. I planted it into the garden. It hasen't grown, it hasen't died!!! What shoule I do next???
Have you looked at the roots to see if they're a bit pot bound and haven't opened out into the surrounding soil? That's sometimes the problem. They need a fair bit of food and moisture to get them growing well, but if they're 'stuck' they won't develop.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Tks Fairygirl & Verdun...will dig it up to see what the roots are doing. I'll put it in a bigish pot over winter.
