If the plant is lemon balm would not the OP have mentioned it smelled of lemon? It is very distinctive. Same goes for any other herb. I agree it is a herb.
Thanks all, yes I should of mentioned the very strong sweet smell of lemon - took me so long to work out how to add the pictures I forgot to mention it
It looks if the tired top need cutting back but there looks to be some basal shoots that will give you the lovely lemon smell, perhaps even through the winter . It will make strong new growth in Spring.
Its a bit of a thug but if there is a demand from the kitchen….
My first thought was also Lemon balm - it does smell wonderful but I've never found enough uses for that quantity. Easily enough contained in a pot if you don't need that much either and want to use the bed for something else.

It looks like lemon balm to me - check the stem - lemon balm has a square stem which is typical of members of the lamium family.
