Cutting back

Mrs MMrs M Posts: 34

I bought plug plants of Geum, Campanula and Marguerite earlier this year. The Marguerites flowered well but the others, although the plants grew, mostly did not produce flowers. However, should I now cut all  these back? Is it only the flower stems which I do this with or the whole plant?

  • Just remove old/faded flower stems.  If you do this early in the season you'll often get a second flush (remember for next year).  The central rosette will overwinter and grow away strongly next year. Now's the time you could put a mulch of compost around the plant, too

If they were only plug plants this year it will take a little while for them to grow into a decent enough size to flower well. Next year they should be much better  image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
