My onion stems aren't drying out
What should I do with the onions that still have strong green stems? Normally by now they have folded over and dried for lifting and storing. What to do?

There are still some weeks to go until the first frost, but if one is threatened I would lift them and hang them somewhere airy to dry them off. Preferably a greenhouse. And I would pick out any that bolted for use in the kitchen first.
Did you perhaps plant them a bit late?
Don't worry too much, you'll only need a couple of chilly nights dry, and a bit of sun, and they should quickly turn. Season is long, though. Then lift and dry as normal. It's 70 degrees plus here in Winchester!

Adrian...really is time those onions were lifted, dried stored by now. Put your fork under each bulb and prise them out of the ground, then after they have died down you can dry them off and store them.
Problem is, the sun's day length is shorting quite quickly now, so you may have to dry them indoors....somewhere like the greenhouse staging.
Damp! Even here where it rains and blows constantly, the ground is dry one ft down, we havent had rain since the 1st September, then only half a day.
My onions are long since pulled.
my onions were also green,so dug them out and pegged them on the line they were quite small but they are drying gradually is it time to sow more does anyone know.
