Hydrangeas
I have a beautiful hydrangea macrophylla 'blacksteel Zebra' but many of the pure white blooms have turned brown due to heavy rain in the last week or two. Can anyone let me know the best way to remove these and hopefully encourage further flowering? Many thanks.

Daisym hydrangea flower on wood produced the previous year, so pruning is carried out in spring by removing the previously flowered stems. I leave the flower heads on to protect the plant, I think most people do. You rarely get a second flush after flowering.
Dave, Thank you for your reply. It's a pity because the brown flowers really spoil the appearance. I have put your information into my diary and will deal with it in the spring.
Same here daisy, have a few hydrangas and always deadhead/prune in late March early April after the frosts.
Daisym bit of protection from the frost ,i never remove them till it wakes up again, you can tell when, they start to snore ,but that could be Kate
Thanks for replies. I'm going to be busy in April!
