I have just collected some aquilegia seed and wonder if I can sow it now or should leave it until Spring? I don't have a greenhouse or any kind of shelter, and live in Devon, so wet and mild usually.
I can't believe how quickly some fresh seed comes up - within two or three days for fresh wallflower and hollyhocks this year. Does anyone know of other seeds like this?
If aqualegia plants sow their seeds naturally in the summer, that is the optimum time to sow them. Ditto foxgloves, sweet William, poppies, Welsh poppies, etc, etc.

Carrie Thomas (Touchwood aquilegias) says cold GH in January for sowing. That works well for me, no failures.
I used to sow them when ripe but they germinate quickly when fresh and then there are young plants to see through winter.
