Resin vs Sap vs Pitch

There isn't a great lot of reliable information online so if anyone is able to answer i'll be impressed indeed.

Very frustrating topic for me as everyone seems to be referring to sap as pitch, pitch to sap, resin to pitch and so on.

Please can someone explain the difference between each?

I know what sap is, and fairly sure what resin is. Though pitch?

pitch may be anything sticky and thick, Resins, bitumen, anything. Not a precise thing.

I think maybe our resin is pitch in the US

Pitch used to be used on ships, also called Tar. Nearest I think you get now is bitumen.
