    The way I do it to make accurate curve of any description.

    2 or 3 stakes (short bamboo canes or similar)
    a long loop of string
    a funnel
    fine dry sand (or I use ground seaweed as I've got lots of it)

    If you just want an oval use 2 stakes, loop the string around them and with your finger in the string loop, test to see if you get the curve you want - it takes a bit of experimenting. If you need a tighter or looser curve, use the 3rd stake to tighten or loosen the curve.

    When the curve is as you want it, put the sand-filled funnel inside the string loop and mark out your perfect curve
