When to plant bulbs in pots ready for Mother's Day
Hi I work with nursery children teaching gardening and every year we plant about 60 pots of daffodil bulbs in September band I keep them covered outside then uncover 2 weeks before Mother's Day. Problem is they can get leggy, and not flowering. Could I buy the bulbs and keep in dry dark and plant 2 weeks before Mother's Day? Because we plant so many and so special for children it all a bit of a worry they won't flower. Thank you

When you say covered do you mean in the dark?

Hi yes, under trays and black plastic bags, problem is as it gets warmer in spring the bulbs seem to try to grow and some will get through gaps and then get really long and weak.
Idon't know why you cover them.
I've just put bulbs in pots, they're standing outside and they'll flower in spring. They won't get leggy. Leggy is what happens when a plant doesn't get enough light.
You need to choose varieties that flower in March and It will all just happen.
