Hello and a Plant Question ... Agapanthus

in Plants
Hello
New member, full of Enthusiasm, but trying to improve skills at the same time.
We have an AGAPANTHUS Blue Jacks that has at last produced a lovely display of flower this year. What is the best protocol to look after it now as we go from flowering through autumn and then into winter :
a) leave the finished stem and collect seeds; then 1. Leave stem to wither away; or 2. trim stem back to near base ?
AND
b) frost protection yes, out of wind, yes : but would a fully-enclosed (except one end) and covered large porch provide sufficient frost protection if positioned near the exterior wall of main building, or should it be taken right indoors ?
With thanks for thoughts

along with Phillipas advice i usually make sure mine are well watered and fed until frost is forcast, then just let them do as they please, every so often they get a mulch, but not every year, they are far tougher than they are given credit for.
If your agapanthus is especially special and you love it to death and could not bear to carry on living without it(I have some plants that I feel that way about) then the best experts in the UK are Hoyland Plants, tel: 01226 744466. www.somethingforthegarden.co.uk
They show at Chelsea and Harrogate, they know everything about agapanthus.
Bekki is right though(as usual), they are tougher than people seem to think. I have them in pots against a south facing wall and also planted near the pond, all doing fine.
I think what aggys hate is cold, wet feet; they like good drainage.
