Dealing with crab grass

Hello all.

My lawn is scattered with what I have been told are little spots of crab grass. I was advised to treat them all with spot-on weed killer, which certainly seems to have killed them. There are a few pictures below for reference.

My question is should I now simply leave them or should I dig them out and replace with soil and grass seed?

Any advice/help would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

You seem to have a good crop of clover there too. If you have killed the clumps of grass, they will be removed/cut off when you cut the lawn.
  • Hi sjp2, are you in the UK? Crab grass (Digitaria) is a tropical plant and might well be killed in a bad winter anyway. There are other grasses that have that spreading appearance. But anyway, you seem to have dealt with it.

Many thanks both for your replies.

Welshonion - yes there is a fair bit of clover but I don't mind that so much. The clumps look pretty dead to me so I guess cutting will suffice. Thank you.

landgirl100 - Yes Southern England. Interesting about the grass not lasting the winter - but as you say it seems to be dealt with.

So, I'll leave the clumps where they are and let the mower do the rest! Thanks again to you both for the help - really appreciate it.
