Juniper rockets
Can anyone tell me why my juniper rockets have gone brown please.
They are watered when dry and are about 6 feet tall, and I would like to resque these if possible.
Is this a disease or a bug, and is there anything I can do to prevent further damage and resque them.

Hi CC, that's not good news
Any part that's gone brown won't recover. Junipers, conifers generally, don't come back from brown. Can you post a photo to show the extent of the damage.
Are they in pots or in the ground?

Thank you for your reply nutcutlet. They do not look as if they will recover, but I will not be able to remove them until next spring anyway. I have tried to attach photos several times without success. Hope this one goes through.

They look dead to me. When were they planted there and how much water have they had? This has been a very dry year and if this was their first or second year, trees of that size will have needed quite a bit of water in order to establish.
I presume there's landscaping fabric under the gravel - how close is the fabric to the base of the trees. Although landscaping fabric should be water permeable, I'm yet to be convinced that it lets as much water through to the soil that falls as rain.

Hi Dovefromabove. The rockets have been there about 3 to 4 years, and yes there is weed suppressing fabric down that comes right up to the conifers. I agree that this year has been particularly dry and maybe they haven't had more water than usual, but they had started turning brown at the end of last summer. They do look dead but there are some green shoots in the middle and the new growth at the top is green, which is why I was hoping there was some way of resque them. If we dig them up, what would you recommend in their place. The trees were meant to distract next door's rather bland garage and their position is in the shade and in a slight slope.
