I have a SE facing Front Garden and I adore Big Blousy Bearded Irises I saw Irises Growing in shallow pans perched on raised tree trunks in the above I would like to recreate this effect . Could someone please tell me the best growing medium, what is the minimum depth the pans would be and and when would be the best time to divide my overcrowded iris patch.Irises look good for only 1 or 2 Months and even their lovely green leaves start to die back about now So I thourght that growing them in a more 'architectural setting' would give them another 8 months of interest. Has anyone any ideas?
