Just watched the video on how to build and ordered scaf planks for delivery so now need to know how to build up the growing medium. ie buy in top soil, sand or compost anything else? Mix it before hand or layer it up. My soil is good old Essex clay but has been manured and worked for some years now. I'm hoping raised beds will give me a quicker start in the spring. I have a good compost heap but am building 3 beds so what compost I have can only be a component part. Any constructive comments would be appreciated.

I built mine up with horse poop, cheap compost, a bit of sand n grit, and top soil. Put it down in the autumn to give it chance to break down and mix up. Got fab results. Good luck with it.
Thanks for that, Tootles, good timing too. All of that is easily available so I'll give it a go.
