Plant ID please!

Hi,

does anyone know what this is? It's one of a few plants I bought at the garden centre last year and it's grown really big this year

I don't know how to cut it back and don't want to kill it, as I quite like it, but it's really big...

Grateful for any help!

It looks like an osteospermum. As we had little frost last year it survived the winter. It may be hardier now it is bigger, but I wouldn't risk it. Take cuttings of unflowered shoots now, dip in rooting powder and plant in a pot of gritty compost. Keep frost free and on the dryish side over winter. Pot on in spring and plant out in late may or early june.

Agree it does look like an osteospermum,a very pretty one too!

Take cuttings as fidgetbones suggests. As for the actual plant in the garden I would leave it,don't cut it back until spring  (assuming it survives the winter).

I am on the Isle of Wight so fairly mild winters and some tender osteos have survived to flower the following summer.

Just read that you bought the plants last year so have already gone through a winter, hopefully they will do so again!

  • Osteospermum, that's the one! I had lost the little plastic think it came with.

Thank you, I will do as suggested.

    Much appreciated image
