    Nice idea BUT,

I have one terminally ill apple tree Topbird. There were 2 here when we arrived, long neglected. It has an appointment with the chainsaw this winter.

Always sad to hear of trees going to the great orchard in the sky - but nice fuel for the log burner. I have a walnut going the same way .....

  • Oooh Topbird!  Walnut - do you know any woodturners - you could get a gorgeous bowl made image

Now that is a VERY GOOD idea Dove. We've just had a new kitchen fitted - all very white, sleek and modern - but a large wooden bowl filled with fruit would look fantastic & very organic - and it would be lovely to have it made from our own wood.

I think I will make some enquiries - I'm sure there are some wood turners close to me as I have seen their adverts. Thanks for the suggestion imageimageimage

  • There used to be a very good one between you and the coast, but I've a feeling he's since gone to the great workshop in the sky image

There is one in a street market in Cambridge, but I think the wood has to be seasoned for about 7 years.image

  • Some wood-turners like to use green wood - it depends on the way they work. image  Some bowls made from green wood are more like sculptures - I've seen some amazing ones, with splits and knots forming part of the bowl.

I'd forgotten that Dove. It does make for very interesting shapes.image

  • I'm going to be AWOL for a couple of days visiting son, so I'll leave you lot to organise the outing - so far I'm not booked for any Saturday in October as far as I know. image
