Does anyone know what this little critter might be?

I have found a couple of these on my cotonester (sorry prob wrong spelling, maybe wrong plant even...)

Anyway it seems to be killing off the leaves.  any ideas what it might be?

I think it looks like a leech type thing, but not aware we get leeches in the UK...

Yes we have leeches in the UK, especially in ponds.

Don't know what your thing is though.
  • Think its the larva of the Pear Slug Sawfly

  • Thank you Dove, a friend has just said the same.  Friend of Foe do you know?

Ever have the feeling you are battling things eating your plants and plant diseases...

  • Don't know any sawflies that have purely friendly intentions, but I tend to regard them as food for the birds rather than worry about them image

  • I had slug worms on my cherry tree last year, peanuts, not loads though. They did the same sort of damage but it is fine this year.

  • These are 'Pear Slugs' which are the larvae of the Sawfly and are defo a foe! Get rid before they destroy your trees! I have tried the friendly way of blasting them off with water but they come back so insecticide it is.
