Unidentified little tree??

Think it might be a tree because previous owner has staked it - however could well be a weed with original plant long since dead! Help please.

    There is a big one of those nearby so maybe you are right, just a bit puny looking and much lighter in colour. Thanks.

    Yes, some sort of Acer palmatum
