Unusual Plant
in Plants
Can any one identify this monster plant that started to grow this summer in our garden. We initially thought, as it started to grow, it was a sunflower, but it as you can see it is still growing. Plenty of greenery but no signs of flowers. Not shown are the hairy stem and side branches.
We do feed the wild birds with mixed seed so that it may have originated from this.
Many thanks

Looks like a sunflower to me too o_o
Yep, if from birdseed it's probably a seed from a sunflower which was grown in a much hotter country and so may not flower when grown in the UK.
Interesting
Hope you can send a picture of the final monster !
It's just a thought , but have you checked out the Paulownia tree ? I grew one from some seeds from chilterns seeds.it was very quick in germinating and also growing
It grew16 ft in the first year .the leaves were big but soft and downey. The thick stem over the years was a light greenish colour.
The leaves of Paulownia are more heart shaped, closer to Catalpa in appearance, that looks very like a Sunflower to me.
Could it be some sort of balsam, like the himalayan? I havent grown it since i was a kid, i cant remember exaclty what it looked like, but i remember it being big!
Looks just like my jerusalem artichokes - now about 8ft high and about to flower!
I would say Sunflower - possibly 'Kong'.
