Hi, i found this in a border, quite like it, but assume i should cut it before it seeds?

next one - i bought a boat load of nepeta to use as ground cover, its varegated.  This is happening to more than one plant, i think its a weed growing through the nepeta, not varegated, and with a small blue flower, but i cant make out where one thing ends and another begins, so im not sure. Maybe its part of the nepeta?

Not sure about the top picture as I can't expand it but the second one is definitely two plants.  The nepeta is the variegated one.  The other needs to have all its trailing stems gathered up and then the central stem and roots can be pulled out in one go.

Water first to make it easier and reduce collateral damage to the nepeta.

Ah OK got that thanks.  Top one has pale yellow flowers. Probably should pull it out.

  • There are rather a lot in the carrot family (Apiaceae) which is what I think the 1st pic is but can't ID it exactly.  I think it's quite pretty so would keep it. image

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • If you like the top one (it's a bit like hedge parsley I think) you can call it a wild flower, not a weed, and keep it  image  though you might want to dead-head it before it seeds, unless you like it A LOT...

The second one looks like henbit to me (Lamium amplexicaule...)

  • Or maybe speedwell?  blue flowers suggests it might be... quite pretty but invasive.  Definitely a weed though.  You may find it's rooted along its stems, but careful tugging should remove it without damaging the nepeta.

  • Yes, ivy-leaved speedwell. It's going to seed so get it out now!

The first photo is an umbellifer, as Bob says, but not one of the common wild ones. I think it's Ammi majus, which is sold as an annual garden plant.
