hyacinth bulbs

am i right in planting hyacinth bulbs up to there neck and placing the bulbs somewhere dark???? until they start to sprout . this is the first year of trying to grow them .

    Prepared bulbs, yes. They need to be in the dark and cool until the flowerhead appears, not just until they sprout. They need to believe that Winter has passed.

    I  am not sure if they are prepared bulbs i bought them from B&M image

    Prepared bulbs are usually labelled as such and probably cost more as well. They've been treated so they think they've had winter and start growing when you plant them. These are the ones you can plant just up to the neck

    Ordinary hyacinth bulbs can be planted in the ground like any other bulb, well down in the soil.

    I wouldn't faff about with all that dark /light/warm/cold place business. Buy a pot when they're nearly ready to flowerimage

    2 late ive planted them and stuck them in a dark place image they have been in there about 3 weeks .
